Northeastern Connecticut's Quiet Corner is located within easy driving distance from Boston, New York City, Providence, Hartford and Worcester and Mystic. It is part of "The Last Green Valley"–the Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor, recognized by Congress in 1994 as a unique national resource.
This National Heritage Corridor is called The Last Green Valley because when viewed from satellites or aircraft at night, the region appears distinctively dark amid the urban and suburban glow of the sprawling metropolitan Boston-to-Washington corridor.
Many visitors sightseeing in Southern New England start in the Mystic area and travel to Boston on the "back roads," such as Scenic 169, which takes them right through the heart of Connecticut's Quiet Corner.
